The Higher League of the 73rd Russian Championship and the 70th Russian Women's Championship is scheduled to be held in Sochi on 7-18 October, 2020. 

The event is held subject to compliance with the requirements of the authorization acts adopted as part of the fight against COVID-19 on the territory of the Krasnodar region as well as with the Regulations on organisation of the official sports events in Russia in the context of maintaining risks of COVID-19 spreading confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Sport and Rospotrebnadzor on 31.07.2020.

A player is permitted to take part in the event only if he/she has a negative COVID-19 test within three days before the first round.   

The event is a 9-round Swiss tournament with one free day. 

The match days: October 8-12 and 14-17. October 13 is the tournament's free day. Rounds 1-8 start at 3 PM, while the final 9th round will begin at 2 PM (Moscow time). 

The venue and the official hotel is Grand Hotel Zhemchuzhina.  

Time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves then 30 minutes for the rest of the game with 30 seconds increment per move starting from the first. 

Players are allowed to be late for their games for no more than 15 minutes. 

The total prize fund is 5,000,000 rubles. 

Top 5 finishers in each tournament receive the right to play in the 2020 Russian Championships Superfinals.
