Yuri Balashov Is Among Leaders of World Senior Championship

The tournament is going on in Acqui Terme.

Rounds 6 (open) and 5 (women) are played at the World Senior Championship in Acqui Terme. The leaders of the 65+ group are Yuri Balashov (Russia), Anatoly Vaisser, Vladimir Okhotnik (both from France), Christian Hess (Germany), Arkady Shevelev (Israel), and Vlastimil Jansa (Czech Republic). Eleven participants, including Evgeny Vasiukov and Nikolai Pushkov, are half a point behind. The 65+ women’s championship is headed by Tamar Khmiadashvili (Georgia) - 4.5/5. Nona Gaprindashvili (Georgia) and Elena Fatalibekova (Russia) are trailing by half a point. 

Rogelio Antonio (Philippines), Julio Granda Zuniga (Peru), Zurab Sturua (Georgia), Eric Prie (France), Alexander Reprintsev (Ukraine), and Oliver Brendel (Germany) are heading the 50+ tournament with 5 points. Elvira Berend (Luxembourg) is leading the 50+ women’s event with 4.5 points out of 5. Liu Shilan (China) is trailing by half a point. Galina Strutinskaia and Tatiana Bogumil have scored 3.5/5.
