Vladislav Artemiev Wins Russian Blitz Championship

Margarita Potapova excels in the women's tournament.


The Russian blitz championships among men and women took place in the Grand Hotel Zhemchuzhina in Sochi on the 11th of October. The events are the 13-round Swiss events with the 3+2 time control. 

Two hundred seventeen players, including thirty-four grandmasters, took part in the open tournament. The rating favourite GM Vladislav Artemiev celebrated a convincing victory, having scored 12 points out of 13. GM Alexey Sarana is 2 points behind. GM Konstantin Sakaev took bronze with 9.5 points, having edged out IM Arsen Kukhmazov, GMs Nikita Petrov, Boris Savchenko, and Igor Lysyj. 

Final standings



The women's championship featured ninety-four participants with seven WGMs among them. The winner is WIM Margarita Potapova, who got 10.5 points out of 13. WFM Daria Yurasova (2nd place), WGM Elena Tomilova (3rd place), and Ekaterina Diakonova (4th place) are 1 point behind the champion.

Final standings

The Russian rapid championships will be held on 12-13 October.
