Team SBER Comes Second at FIDE Online World Corporate Championship
The Russians lost to Grenke Bank in the final.

The first FIDE Online World Corporate Chess Championship was finished on Chess.com. The play-off was held on February 21.
In the quarterfinals, the Russian team SBER beat ERG from Kazakhstan 3-1 (Maxim Lavrov and Maria Komiagina won, Ian Nepomniachtchi and Alexander Kadatsky made draws). Sberbank Trade Union defeated Emphie Solutions from Poland 2.5-1.5 (Anton Korobov and Elena Homyakova won, Fedor Myshakov drew his game, while Evgenij Kretov lost).
Two Russian teams faced each other in the semi-final. SBER crushed their rivals 3.5-0.5 (Ian Nepomniachtchi, Maxim Lavrov, and Maria Komiagina won, while Alexander Kadatsky made a draw).
The final match saw a battle between SBER and Grenke Bank (Germany).
The first encounter ended in a draw 2-2, despite Ian Nepomnachtchi's bright victory over Georg Meier as Black.
In the second match, SBER lost 1.5-2.5 to win silver medals of the Championship.
The Grenke Bank team will get a wine-and-chess set ‘Chateau La Grace Dieu des Prieurs, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Art Russe Collection’.
It is a special prize for the winner of the FIDE World Corporate Chess Championship, established at the initiative of the Chess Federation of Russia.
