Russian Under 9 Championship Starts in Kostroma

The opening ceremony took place at Gubernskiy Cultural and Exhibition Center.

The opening ceremony of the Russian Under 9 Championship took place on May 24 in Kostroma. Alexander Rodionov, Vice-chairman of the Соmmittee for Physical Culture and Sport of Kostroma Oblast, Vladimir Barsky, the RCF Deputy Executive Director, Leonid Lustgarten, President of the Kostroma Oblast Chess Federation, Andrey Beletsky, the tournament’s Chief Arbiter and other officials greeted young chess players, their parents and coaches. 

Kostroma is hosting the Russian Championship among the youngest chess players for the 17th time. Sanan Sjugirov, Daniil Dubov, Grigoriy Oparin, Maxim Lugovskoy, Daria Pustovoitova, Alexandra Obolentseva, Aleksandra Dimitrova and many now-known grandmasters and masters have become winners and prize-winners of the tournaments in Kostroma in recent years.  

The Russian Under 9 Championship is an 11-round Swiss event. The time control is 60 minutes for the rest of the game plus an additional 10 seconds increment per move starting from move 1. 

On May 25, rounds 1 and 2 will be played starting from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
