Russian Teams are Among Leaders of European Championship

2 rounds are played in Crete.

In round 2 of the European Team Championship in Crete, the Russian men’s team defeated Belarus 2.5-1.5 (Maxim Matlakov won, Alexander Grischuk, Ian Nepomniachtchi, and Daniil Dubov drew their games).

After two rounds, the leaders with 4 match points are the teams from Hungary (7 board points), the Netherlands, Armenia (6 points both), Russia, Czech Republic, Italy, and Croatia (5 points all).

In round 3, the Russians will face the Czech team. 

Round 3 pairings

The Russian women’s team won the match against Czech Republic 2.5-1.5 (Alexandra Kosteniuk and Kateryna Lagno won, Olga Girya made a draw, Aleksandra Goryachkina lost).

The tournament is headed by the teams of Israel, Georgia, Spain (4 match points, 7 board points all), Poland, Ukraine (6 points both), Russia, Turkey, and Hungary (5 points all). 

The Russian chess players’ rival in round 3 will be the Ukrainian team.
