Participants of Russian Championships Superfinals Determined

The rating favourites are Alexander Grischuk and Aleksandra Goryachkina.

The Superfinals of the 77th Russian championship and the 74th Russian women's championship will be held in Barnaul (Altai Territory) on 16-29 August, 2024. The venue will be the Shukshin Altai Regional Drama Theatre.

The opening ceremony will be held on 16 August at 6 PM in the Siberia Concert Hall. 

The open and women's tournaments are 11-round all-play-all events. The time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1. 

The match days are 17-22 and 24-28 August. The games will start at 3 PM local time (11 AM Moscow time). 

In case of a tie for the 1st place, an additional competition will be held. Five best players of the open event will qualify for the FIDE World Cup, while three best players of the women's tournament will get the right to play in the FIDE Women's World Cup.

Traditionally, a day of a social programme is organised during the Superfinals. On this day, well-known grandmasters give simuls and master classes to young chess players and veterans. 

The Superfinals are organised by the Chess Federation of Russia with support of the Russian Ministry of Sport and Timchenko Foundation in cooperation with the Government of the Altai Territory and the Chess Federation of the Altai Territory.
