FIDE World Cup Opens in Tbilisi

Magnus Carlsen picked the white pieces. 

On September 2, the FIDE World Cup was officially opened in Tbilisi. Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia Tariel Khechikashvili, President of the Georgian Chess Federation Giorgi Giorgadze, President of the European Chess Union, Chairman of the World Cup's Appeals Committee Zurab Azmaiparashvili, and FIDE Deputy President Georgios Makropoulos made speeches at the Ceremony.

Chief Arbiter Tomasz Delega (Poland) conducted the drawing of colours. The World Champion Magnus Carlsen selected White. It means that all the participants with odd numbers will play with the white pieces in the 1st game of the 1st round.
