Fabiano Caruana Leads Candidates Tournament Again

Sergey Karjakin shares second place with Shakhriyar Mamedyarov.

On March 26, the penultimate thirteenth round of the FIDE Candidates Tournament was played in Berlin. Fabiano Caruana (USA) defeated Levon Aronian (Armenia) to take the sole lead again. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov outplayed Alexander Grischuk (Russia). The games So (USA) - Karjakin (Russia) and Ding Liren (China) - Kramnik (Russia) were drawn.



Standings after round 13:

1. Fabiano Caruana - 8
2-3. Sergey Karjakin, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov - 7.5
4. Ding Liren - 7
5. Alexander Grischuk, – 6.5
6. Vladimir Kramnik - 6
7. Wesley So - 5.5
8. Levon Aronian – 4

Round 14 pairings: 

Grischuk - Caruana, Karjakin - Ding Liren, Kramnik - Mamedyarov, Aronian - So.

If the top two or more players score the same points, the tie will be decided by the following criteria, in order of priority: 

a) The results of the games between the players involved in the tie.
b) The total number of wins in the tournament of every player involved in the tie.
c) Sonneborn - Berger System.

If there is no clear winner with the above 3 criteria, there will be a special competition between the players who still remain tied after using the 3rd criteria (Sonneborn - Berger) on March 28.
