The vote to transit to the Asian Chess Federation was unanimously adopted by the CFR Supervisory Board on April 14, 2022. At the moment, the ACF consists of chess federations of 54 countries. Among them are the world's strongest chess powerhouses, such as China, India, Uzbekistan, and many others.

77 per cent of Russia's territory belongs to Asia and 23 to Europe. In line with the current FIDE Regulations, Russia is part of the European Chess Union. On having looked into the legal aspect of the CFR becoming part of the ACF Federation, the FIDE Constitutional Commission found no violations in such a transition and issued its recommendations. In line with these recommendations, the FIDE Council was to decide on CFR's transition from the ECU into the ACF. This decision was adopted by the FIDE Council on February 21, 2023

Now the transition process is to be finalised at the Continental Assembly of the Asian Chess Federation. The decision is to be taken by the delegates of the Asian Chess Summit on February 28. The Chess Federation of Russia's delegation at the Summit will be headed by CFR President Andrey Filatov. The event is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi from February 26 through March 3.
