Asian Youth Blitz Championship Finishes in Almaty

Russian players won 9 medals.


Thursday, June 20, the city of Almaty saw the Asian Youth Blitz Championship among boys and girls under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 years old. The tournament was a Swiss event with 9 rounds and a time control of 3 minutes to the end of the game plus a two-second increment per move, starting with move one. 

U8, open:

1. S. Mani (India), 2. N. Nematillakhonov – 7.5 each, 3. Sh. Sidikov (both - Uzbekistan) – 7. Results of Russian chess players: G. Yunker – 6.5; B. Kalinin – 4.5.

U8. girls:

1. Kha Han Ly (Vietnam) – 8; 2. Chen Qinzhan (China) – 7,5; 3. Е. Levgeeva (Russia) – 7. Yet another Russian player, V. Volkova, has scored 5.5 points.

U10, open:

1. Anand (Mongolia) – 8.5; 2. A. A. Adwick (India) – 8; 3. A. Zhayunbai (Kazakhstan) – 6.5. Results of Russian chess players: A. Gafurov, V. Lyubushak – 6 each; A. Tsepilov – 5.5; T. Fischer – 5; G. Kalinichenko – 4.5.

U10, girls:

U18, open:

1. S. Akhmedinov (Kazakhstan) – 7.5; 2. A. Khripachenko (Russia) – 7; 3. Dau Huong Duy (Vietnam) – 6.5. 

U18, girls:

1. A. Nurman (Kazakhstan) – 7; 2. Hong Nhung Nguyen (Vietnam), 3. G. Mikheeva (Russia) – 6.5 each. Results of other Russian chess players: M. Kuznetsova, A. Shukhman – 6.5 each.  

The competition brought together approximately 650 young athletes out of 34 countries. Russia was represented by 54 players.

The Russians have taken 7 medals in standard, 11 in rapid and 9 in blitz chess. The age groups champions are: Alisa Genrietta Yunker, Maria Vlasova, Olesia Vlasova (all in classical chess), Anna Shukhman (standard chess, rapid), German Kalinichenko, Marat Gilfanov (both in rapid), Uliana Dudkina, and Nomina Darmaeva (both in blitz).
