Arkady Dvorkovich to Run for FIDE President

Team to be announced soon.


Head of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee Arkady Dvorkovich informed RIA Novosti about his decision to run for the FIDE Presidency. 

"I have decided to run as a candidate for the FIDE President after consultations with the country's highest authorities, the Russian Chess Federation, and the international chess community", said Arkady Dvorkovich. "The current situation in the chess world has become the motive for this decision. It is obvious that FIDE needs development. I am quite familiar with what is going on in the chess world and I have necessary competences to make a difference for FIDE and the world of chess".  

Mr. Dvorkovich specified that he would announce his team (presidential ticket) in the near future.  

"I am planning to unite professional organizers from the whole world for chess to take a rightful place in the world sport", adds he.  

President of the Russian Chess Federation, Head coach of the Russian national men's chess team Andrey Filatov gave a comment to RIA Novosti as well. "The news that Arkady Vladimirovich Dvorkovich has decided to run for FIDE President is very joyous and pleasant for us because he is a very good and talented manager, a great professional. Arkady Dvorkovich is by right heading the 2018 FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee, which was opened yesterday in Russia with such a brilliant result", said he.

From 2007 till 2014, Arkady Dvorkovich held key positions in the Russian Chess Federation. Many tournaments have been organized under his patronage.  

FIDE Presidential elections are taking place as part of the FIDE General Assembly in Batumi, Georgia, on October 3, 2018.
