Andrey Filatov makes the first move for Gunina, Russia wins big

The RCF President arrived in Chengdu.

The RCF President Andrey Filatov visited the Women's World Team Championship in Chengdu, China, during the round 6. The RCF President and the President of the Chengdu Chess Institute Jiang Quansheng made a symbolic first move in Socko-Gunina. It should be noted that Andrey Filatov made the first move for Valentina, who asked him to reply to 1.e4 with 1...c6. 

Andrey Filatov shared his impressions from the event with our readers:

“Our team is in a great mood. Russian girls play spectacular chess, as usual, and I hope our golden girls will indeed win the gold here. Yes, they drew the first two matches, but I think our team can afford not beating everybody.”

“In my opinion, the venue is ideal. Chengdu is dubbed the panda capital of the world. I hope our players liked pandas they saw on the rest day.”

“All in all, the tournament is very well organized. The playing hall is very good and comfortable.”

Valentina Gunina was the first player to score in this match, securing a win over Monika Socko. Then Alexandra Kosteniuk defeated Iolanta Zawadzka, and Alexandra Goryachkina won against Marta Bartel. A draw by Natalia Pogonina concluded a big victory for the Russian team – 3.5-0.5.

The leaders from Georgia defeated USA 3-1, Ukraine defeated Armenia 2.5-1.5, India crushed Egypt 4-0, China and Kazakhstan made a surprising draw.
