Andrey Esipenko Shares First Place at FIDE Grand Swiss

Round 8 of the FIDE Grand Swiss 2023 and FIDE Women's Grand Swiss 2023 finished on the Isle of Man.  
 
In the open tournament, Andrey Esipenko defeated Vincent Keymer as White and is now sharing the lead with Fabiano Caruana, Santosh Vidit and Bogdan-Daniel Deac. The leaders have 6 points each.
 
The games Yu Yangyi vs. Najer, Artemiev vs. Gledura, and Matlakov vs. L'Ami ended in a draw. Volodar Murzin lost to Alexei Shirov. Najer and Artemiev have 4.5 points each, Matlakov - 4, and Murzin – 3.5.  
 
In the women's competition Leya Garifullina defeated Polina Shuvalova, Valentina Gunina drew Elisabeth Paehtz, while Aleksandra Goryachkina went down to Tan Zhongyi.
 
Rameshbabu Vaishali, Anna Muzychuk, and Antoaneta Stefanova have scored 6 points each. Leya Garifullina is in the group of pursuers being half a point behind the leaders. Aleksandra Goryachkina has 5 points, Polina Shuvalova - 4.5 points, and Valentina Gunina - 4 points. 

Both tournaments are part of the qualifications for the current World Championship cycle, with the top two players in the open event qualifying for the 2024 Candidates Tournament and the top two players in the Women’s Grand Swiss qualifying for the 2024 Women’s Candidates.

The total prize fund is $600,000, with $460,000 for the Grand Swiss and $140,000 for the Women’s Grand Swiss.
