The 12th World Chess Champion exhibits some items from his collection.

On May 23, the 12th World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov celebrated his birthday at the Central House of Chess Player in Moscow. Many famous people of chess, culture, and politics came to congratulate him.

The exhibition From the 12th World Chess Champion’s Collection was opened as well. Many exhibits of Karpov’s abundant collection have never been shown to public before. Numerous rare items are displayed, for example, the grandmaster’s portrait by Ilya Glazunov, Order of Malta, the watch gifted by an Arab sheik, a unique porcelain chess set, the most interesting stamps and badges. The most memorable badges are those created for the might-have-been match Fischer-Karpov 1975. A special showcase is dedicated to Karpov’s legendary chess ties.

RCF Executive Director Mark Glukhovsky made an opening speech. Anatoly Karpov told the guests about his collection. RCF President Andrey Filatov congratulated Anatoly Karpov on his birthday, noted his multiple talents and wished him to remain as energetic and purposeful as he'd always been.

A well-known Russian politician Sergey Baburin read out the first Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration of Russia Sergey Kiriyenko’s congratulatory letter.
