15th World's Youth Stars Tournament Starts on May 16

A press conference took place in Saint Petersburg.

The press conference, dedicated to the 15th World's Youth Stars International Tournament in Memory of Vanya Somov, took place at the Kinef’s representative office in Saint Petersburg. 

The Vice-chairman of the Organizing committee Vasily Pozdyaev greeted the guests and invited them to the Opening Ceremony on May 16.  

The Tournament Director and its Chief Arbiter Gennady Nesis told about the event: 

– The Opening Ceremony will take place at the Kinef’s Palace of Culture in Kirishi and will represent a beautiful theatre performance with presentation of the participants and drawing of lots. Chess players from 8 countries will take part in the tournament. 

The line-up: FM Kaasen Tor Fredrik (Norway), IM Shevchenko Kirill (Ukraine), Lobanov Sergei (Russia), FM Kacharava Nikolozi (Georgia), FM Zarubitski Viachaslau (Belorussia), FM Shubin Kirill (Russia), IM Hakobyan Aram (Armenia), IM Sargsyan Shant (Armenia), Shсhetkin Kirill (Russia), FM Giannoulakis Lampros (Greece), IM Pultinevicius Paulius (Lithuania), and IM Nikitenko Mihail (Belorussia). 

Many honored guests are invited to Kirishi, including the Vice World Champion Sergey Karjakin. In 2005, Sergey won the third Tournament in Memory of Vanya Somov.  

On May 22, Nesis Blitz Cup, dedicated to the Organizer’s 70th anniversary, will be played. Not less than 20 GMs will participate. Preliminary registration is obligatory.
