Chess Section Of Pioneers Palace Celebrates 80 Years Of Work

The fest took place in the Tretyakov Gallery.

The chess section of Moscow Pioneers Palace appeared the same year the Palace was created – in 1936. This year the Palace celebrates 80 years of work. A celebration for its famous chess section took place on May 23 in the Tretyakov Gallery. 

The program included excursion, theatrical performance, concert, and chess simuls. 

Among those who came to congratulate students, teachers and alumni of the chess section, were FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Deputy Minister of Culture of Russia Alexander Zhiravsky, RCF Executive Director Mark Glukhovsky, Pioneers Palace Rector Andrey Shashkov, and his deputy Olga Korovatskaya. Among many honored guests of the celebration were Galina Lvovna Dvorkovich and Olga Mikhailovna Fioshkina, daughter of Mikhail Botvinnik.

Grandmasters Ian Nepomniachtchi, Igor Glek, and Olga Girya gave simuls. 

Evgeny Vasiukov won the seniors tournament, former rector of the chess school of the Palace Alexander Mazya finished second, Galina Strutinskaya took third place. 

Galina Dvorkovich held the awarding ceremony.
