Alexander Panchenko Memorial Finishes in Chelyabinsk

Oleg Korneev took the first place in the main tournament.

On October 15, the International Festival «Alexander Panchenko Memorial-2017» finished in Chelyabinsk.

The festival consisted of three tournaments: «А» – with a GM norm, «В» – with an IM norm, and the open tournament «С». 90 players from Russia, Spain, Ireland, Serbia, Ukraine, and  Kyrgyzstan, including seven grandmasters, took part in competitions.

GMs Oleg Korneev (Spain) and Vitaly Sivuk (Ukraine) shared 1-2 places in the «A» group (Round-robin, 9 rounds) with 6 points. Korneev became the winner thanks to his superior tie-break. IM Alexander Gutenev (Russia) became third. Only half a point separated a young coach of the Chelaybinsk chess school from the first point of the GM norm. 

IM Semetey Tologontegin (Kyrgyzstan) won the «B» tournament with 8.5 points. Viacheslav Borisenko (Ukraine) won the second place with 6 points. Sergey Drygalov (Russia) became third due to his inferior tie-break but gained the third point of the IM norm. 

FM Artiom Frolov excelled in the open tournament - 7.5 points. FM Ivan Frolov (2nd place) and Evgeni Polosin (all from Russia, 3rd place) are half a point behind.
