Hikaru Nakamura Wins Blitz Warm Up in Zurich

The main part of the 3-day event begins today.

The 5th traditional supertournament in Zurich started on Friday, February 12. The event gathered a number of elite players: Vladimir Kramnik (Russia), Vishy Anand (India), Hikaru Nakamura (USA), Levon Aronian (Armenia), Anish Giri (Netherlands), and Alexei Shirov (Latvia). 

The opening ceremony saw a classical music concert of worldwide famous musicians – cellist Boris Andrianov, guitarist Dmitry Illarionov, and violinist Ilya Gringolz. It was followed by a warm-up blitz tournament, which also served as a drawing of lots tool. Hikaru Nakamura took the first place with 3.5 points in 5 games. Vishy Anand and Alexei Shirov tied for the second with 3 points, Vladimir Kramnik scored 2.5 points, Levon Aronian followed him with 2 points, and Anish Giri finished last with 1 point. 

The honorable guests of the ceremony were 12th World Champion Anatoly Karpov, his archrival Victor Korchnoi, and world's strongest female player in history Judit Polgar.
