World Senior Championship Enters Final Straight

Rounds 8 (open) and 7 (women) are played at the World Senior Championship in Acqui Terme, Italy. The leaders of the 65+ group are Yuri Balashov (Russia), Vladimir Okhotnik (France), Arkady Shevelev (Israel), and Vlastimil Jansa (Czech Republic) with 6.5 points out of 8. The 65+ women’s championship is headed by Nona Gaprindashvili and Tamar Khmiadashvili (both from Georgia) - 5.5/7. Natalia Titorenko (Russia) is half a point behind.  

Julio Granda Zuniga (Peru) has taken the sole lead in the 50+ tournament with 7 points out of 8. Evgenij Kalegin has got 6 points. Elvira Berend (Luxembourg) is leading the 50+ women’s event with 6.5 points out of 7. Galina Strutinskaia is trailing by 1 point.
