Five Russian Players Advanced to the 2nd Round of the World Cup

13 more will have a chance on the tie-break tomorrow.

Most favorites solved their first round riddles and advanced to the 2nd Round of the World Cup after two classical games. The list includes Veselin Topalov, Hikaru Nakamura, Fabiano Caruana, Levon Aronian, Anish Giri, Wesley So, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, etc. Five Russian players also won their matches on Saturday: Vladimir Kramnik, Peter Svidler, Sergey Karjakin, Dmitry Andreikin, and Vladislav Artemiev.

Among the major upsets of the starting round are Gata Kamsky's loss to Hrant Melkumyan, Ni Hua's loss to Sandro Mareko, and Ray Robson's loss to Yury Vovk. 

The tie-break is played on Sunday, September 13. Russian players' pairings:
