Ugra and SShOR Maintain Leadership at Russian Team Women's Championship

Bronze Horseman makes another giant leap towards victory.


The 8th round of the Russian Team Championships was played in Sochi on May 9. At the beginning, the 12th World Champion Anatoly Karpov presented flowers to chess veterans. Participants also paid homage to those who had died during World War II with a minute of silence. 

In the Premier League, Bronze Horseman (Saint Petersburg) crushed SShOR (Saint Petersburg) 5.5-0.5 to practically secure the first place. Others results:

Molodezhka (Tyumen region) - Sima-Land (Sverdlovsk region) 2.5-3.5, Men's Movement (Saint Petersburg) - Guards of Law and Order (Saint Petersburg) 2.5-3.5, ShSM Legacy Square Capital (Moscow) - Siberia (Novosibirsk region) 5-1, Moscow region - Ladya (Tatarstan) 2.5-3.5.

Standings: 1. Bronze Horseman - 15 match points (33 board points), 2. ShSM Legacy Square Capital - 13 (30.5), 3. Sima-Land - 13 (28), 4. Guards of Law and Order - 11 (30), 5. Molodezhka - 10 (24.5), etc. 

The final round will see the following leaders' matches: Bronze Horseman - Molodezhka, Guards of Law and Order - ShSM Legacy Square Capital, and Sima-Land - Men's Movement.

In the women's tournament, Ugra smashed Southern Ural 4-0, while SShOR (Saint Petersburg) defeated Impromptu (Moscow) 3-1. Ugra and SShOR are sharing the first place with 14 match points, but Ugra has more board points - 24.5 against 22. In the final round, Ugra will play the team from Nizhny Novgorod region, while SShOR's rival will be Ninth Horizontal (Moscow).  

Southern Ural (Chelyabinsk region) won the senior event with one round to spare having scored 15 match points (32 board points). ShSM Legacy Square Capital (Moscow) has secured the second place with 13 points (25). 

Yamal (Yamalo-Nenets autonomous district) maintains leadership in the Higher League with 14 points (21). KPRF is on the second place with 12 points (19.5), while Our Crimea is third with 11 points (19.5).

The junior tournament is headed by the chess players from Nizhny Novgorod region, who have scored 14 match points (22.5). 

The final ninth round will start at 2:00 p.m.
