Team Russia Wins Rapid Tournament at BRICS Games
Coming up is a blitz team tournament.
Thursday, June 20, the BRICS Games in Kazan hosted a rapid team chess tournament in which the national teams of 16 countries participated.
The Russian team of Vladislav Artemiev, Andrey Esipenko, Kateryna Lagno, and Valentina Gunina took a clear first place with 17 match points in nine rounds. The Russians won eight matches and drew only their main rivals, team China.
The Chinese chess players finished one match point behind the Russians. They won seven matches and drew two: in addition to Russia, they made a draw with Uzbekistan. The Chinese team consisted of Xu Xiangyu, Bai Jinshi, Guo Qi, and Song Yuxin.
Team Uzbekistan won bronze medals in the following lineup: Abdimalik Abdisalimov, Saidakbar Saydaliev, Umida Omonova, and Marjona Malikova scored 14 match points.
The final event of the chess programme at the BRICS Games, the team blitz tournament, is to be held Friday, June 21. The participants will play 11 rounds to the Swiss system with 3+2 time control.
