Polina Shuvalova and Valentina Gunina Lead Race at World Women's Blitz Championship
Hikaru Nakamura surged ahead in the open event.
The World Blitz Championships began in the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace, Almaty, on 29 December. The tournaments are the Swiss events with 21 rounds in the Open Section and 17 rounds in the Women's Section with the 3+2 time control.
Polina Shuvalova and Valentina Gunina are heading the race in the women's event with 7.5 points out of 9. Tan Zhongyi, Aleksandra Gorayachkina, and Alexandra Kosteniuk are half a point behind the leaders.
Hikaru Nakamura has pulled ahead in the open section: he has got 10 points out of 12. Anish Giri, Magnus Carlsen, Daniil Dubov, Haik Martirosyan, and Richard Rapport are trailing by 1 point.
The Russian participants are playing under the FIDE flag.
