Sergey Karjakin Will Not Play In Stavanger

The grandmaster decided to concentrate on preparation to the match with Carlsen.

The winner of the candidates tournament Sergey Karjakin decided not to participate in the Altibox Norway Chess 2016 supertournament, which will take place in Stavanger on April 18-29.

The two-time winner of this event explained that he needs to prepare to the World Championship match with Magnus Carlsen in the best possible way.

According to his manager Kirill Zangalis, Sergey happily accepted the invitation before the candidates tournament, however, the circumstances have changed, and now Sergey has a different status and chose to prepare to the crown match. In addition, he feels exhausted after the candidates tournament and needs a rest.

The organizers are surprised by this decision, and even consider it as an act of disrespect, as the contract is already signed.

The lineup of this supertournament: Magnus Carlsen (Norway), Vladimir Kramnik (Russia), Anish Giri (Netherlands), Levon Aronian (Armenia), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France), Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria), Pavel Eljanov (Ukraine), Pentala Harikrishna (India), and Nils Grandelius (Sweden).
