Mikhail Botvinnik Cup Junior Team Event Announced

Famous grandmasters are picked as captains for children teams.

The Association of Chess Federations informs that the Mikhail Botvinnik Cup, a team event for junior teams, will be taking place on August 8-16 in Kosmos Hotel, Moscow. The tournament is supported by the Interstate Foundation of Humanitarian Cooperation of CIS states.

The tournament reviews the idea of the Pioneers' Palaces Tournament – a team event with grandmaster captains giving simuls to young players of the opposing teams. 10 teams from Moldova, Belarus, Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan have joined the first Botvinnik Cup. Among the captains are grandmasters Sergey Zhigalko, Dmitry Svetushkin, and Alexander Galkin. The event will be played in 7 days, using the classical time control – the only control approved by Mikhail Botvinnik.

The opening ceremony will take place on August 8 at 8:30 pm in the Kosmos Hotel. The organizers are inviting chess fans to visit this unusual and exciting event.
