The qualification part of the Magnus Carlsen Invitational finished on Chess24.com on April 30, although the playoff qualifiers had been already determined.
Ding Liren beat Magnus Carlsen 3-1, while Anish Giri defeated Fabiano Caruana 2.5-1.5.
Two other matches ended in the Armageddon: Ian Nepomniachtchi bested Alireza Firouzja and Hikaru Nakamura outplayed Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.

1-2. Hikaru Nakamura, Ding Liren - 15 points
3-4. Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana - 13
5. Ian Nepomniachtchi - 8
6-7. Alireza Firouzja, Anish Giri - 7
8. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave - 6.
Semi-finals:
Hikaru Nakamura - Fabiano Caruana (May 1)
Magnus Carlsen - Ding Liren (May 2).
The format for the knockout is almost the same as the robin-round one, except instead of a single Armageddon game a tie will be decided first by two 5+3 blitz games, then, if needed, by another two 5+3 blitz games, and only then by Armageddon.
