Lineup of Russian Team for BRICS Sports Games in Kazan Determined

The chess tournament is scheduled for June 17-22.

The BRICS Sports Games are to take place from on 12-23 June 2024 in Kazan. The BRICS Games, which will feature competitions in 27 sports, are expected to attract more than 5,000 participants. A record number of prizes – 392 – will be awarded to athletes competing in the Games. There are 17 sports facilities that will be put into use.
 
The chess tournament is to take place on 17-22 June at the IT Park named after Bashir Rameev. A total of six sets of medals are up for grabs. Participants will compete in rapid and blitz chess with individual and team scoring. 
 
The Russian team will be represented by the titled grandmasters:
 
Vladislav Artemiev, the reigning national champion, world champion as a member of the Russian national team, two-time winner of the FIDE Online Olympiad, bronze medallist of the World Blitz Championship
 
Andrey Esipenko, two-time winner of the FIDE Online Olympiad as a member of the Russian national team, winner and prize-taker of many national and international competitions
 
Kateryna Lagno, Women's Vice World Champion, World rapid and blitz champion, winner of the World Chess Olympiad, two-time winner of the FIDE Online Olympiad, two-time winner of the World Team Championship and four-time winner of the European Team Championship as a member of the Russian national team
 
Valentina Gunina, five-time Russian champion, two-time World blitz champion, three-time European champion, three-time winner of the World Chess Olympiad, two-time winner of the FIDE Online Olympiad, winner of the World Team Championship and six-time winner of the European Team Championship as a member of the Russian national team.
