Gennady Nesis Celebrates His Anniversary

A famous chess player, coach, arbiter and organizer is 70.

On May 22, Gennady Nesis, International Correspondence Chess Grandmaster, Honoured Master of Sports of Russia, Honoured Coach of the Russian SFSR, FIDE Senior Trainer, International Arbiter and Organizer of the World's Youth Stars Tournament in Memory of Vanya Somov, celebrates his 70th anniversary. 

Andrey Filatov, President of the Russian Chess Federation and Vice-President of FIDE, and Alexander Zhukov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee, in particular, sent him congratulatory letters.

Andret Filatov paid tribute to Gennady Nesis’ coaching and literary talents. 

«At different times, you have been working with such world renowned chess players, as the FIDE World Chess Championship 1996 finalst Gata Kamsky and FIDE World Chess Champion 1999 Alexander Khalifman. The World's Youth Stars Tournament, created by you, is justly considered to be the best youth competition in the world. Over the last 15 years, many contemporary chess stars have taken part in it, namely: Sergey Karjakin, Fabiano Caruana, Anish Giri, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Dmitry Andreikin, Daniil Dubov, Vladislav Artemiev and many others. I would like to highlight your apparent literary talent. Not only have you written many popular books and articles in mathematics, in chess history and theory, which were published in two dozens of countries, but also you are the author of poetry collections and memoirs Returning To A Spent Life and This Wonderful Habit To Live», wrote Andrey Filatov in his congratulatory letter.

Alexander Zhukov: «The Russian Olympic Committee expresses its gratitude for your long-term conscientious labour in the field of young chess players’ education, Alexander Khalifman’s training and popularization of science. Your books and articles are widely known in the world. Your World's Youth Stars Tournament, which is being held these days in Kirishi for the 15th time, has become a real talent foundry, primarily, for the Russian chess players». 

The Russian Chess Federation congratulates Gennady Nesis on his birthday and wishes him health, well-being, and success in all of his activities!
