First Stage of Grand Chess Tour Starts in Abidjan
Russia is represented by Ian Nepomniachtchi and Sergey Karjakin.
The 2019 Cote d’Ivoire Rapid & Blitz is one of four new events that will be joining the Grand Chess Tour roster in 2019. The event will be held on May 8-12. Participants will compete over 9 rounds of rapid chess and 18 rounds of blitz chess for a total prize fund of $150,000.
Participants: Magnus Carlsen (Norway), Hikaru Nakamura (USA), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France), Ding Liren (China), Wesley So (USA), Ian Nepomniachtchi, Sergey Karjakin (both from Russia), Wei Yi (China), Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria), and Bassem Amin (Egypt).
Time control: Rapid: 25 minutes with a 10-second delay from move 1. Blitz: 5 minutes with a 3-second delay from move 1.
The match days: May 8-10 (Rapid) and May 11-12 (Blitz).
