Evgeny Levin Wins Nesis Blitz Cup
The tournament took place in Kirishi.
On a free day of the World's Youth Stars Tournament in Memory of Vanya Somov, Nesis Blitz Cup, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the event’s mastermind, was held in Kirishi. Gennady Nesis’ friends, colleagues and the governing body of the Kinef refinery came to congratulate him. FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, RCF President and FIDE Vice-President Andrey Filatov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov, and ECU President Zurab Azmaiparashvili sent their congratulatory letters. Nesis Blitz Cup started after the official ceremony. The tournament was won by GM Evgeny Levin, who scored 7,5 points out of 9. GM Kirill Alekseenko also scored 7,5 points but came second due to an inferior tie-break. GM Maxim Matlakov received a bronze medal with 7 points.
