Vladimir Smetana rewarded the winners.

Winners of the Best Teaching of Chess in Schools Contest were rewarded in Krasnodar. The Contest has been held during 2016-2017 academic year as part of Chess in Schools programme, which is realized in Kuban by the Russian Chess Federation together with Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation and Ministry of Education of Krasnodar Krai.

During the year, the specialists have been estimating the quality and organization of chess education in Kuban’s schools. Eventually, three winners were determined. The best three schools were rewarded with laptops for computer classes, chess sets and chess clock.

Krasnodar Lyceum №48 named after A. Suvorov took first place. School №1 of Dinskoy District became second, School №12 named after G. Zhukov from Gelendzhik came third.

Chess teachers gained rewards as well - 80, 70, and 60 thousand roubles respectively.

The awarding ceremony was attended by the acting Education, Science and Youth Policy Minister of Krasnodar Krai Olga Medvedeva and the President of the Krasnodar Krai Chess Federation Vladimir Smetana.

«I congratulate the winners of the Contest. Currently, 35 schools of Krasnodar Krai are taking part in the project, and 35 schools are going to join it since September. So the rivalry is growing. But it is much more important that a greater number of our schoolchildren will be able to become familiar with an exciting world of chess», said Vladimir Smetana.

The team of Krasnodar Lyceum №48 will take part in the final interregional tournament as part of Chess in Schools project (June, Dagomys).

We'd like to remind that in May, Chess in Universities programme has started in Krasnodar Krai with the opening of Vladimir Kramnik’s chess club in Kuban State University. The former World Chess Champion joined the opening ceremony and met the students and the governing body of the University.
