Art Russe Fund Organizes a Major Exhibition

The partner of the Russian Chess Federation shows Russian art of the 20th century in Abu Dhabi.

On 6 October 2015 in Abu Dhabi, Art Russe Fund, a partner of the Russian Chess Federation, will open its new exhibition, which will be the first major exhibition of 20th century Russian and Soviet art in the United Arab Emirates. This unique event will be held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Social Development of the United Arab Emirates.

The exhibition, which will be presented at the prestigious Emirates Palace until December 10, aims to acquaint visitors with the work of artists who became paradigmatic for millions in the USSR. The exhibition «Art Russe Collection of 20th Century Russian and Soviet Art: War and Peace» includes more than 120 works created in various styles and genres, reflecting the evolution of the Russian school of art over the past century - from the first to the last years of the 20th century.

The Abu Dhabi audience will have an opportunity to discover unknown pages of the history of Russian art. A wide stylistic range, outstanding craftsmanship, expressive power, enormous energy and artistic individuality of masters of Russian and Soviet art created a unique multi-faceted phenomenon: the Russian artistic language of the twentieth century. The new Art Russe exhibition will show different aspects of life in the country during the 20th century: from the legacy of wars and revolutions to such topics as peace, family and labor. Because of the universal importance of its theme, the exhibition will be accessible to the widest possible audience, including those viewers who were not previously familiar with Russian art.

The exhibition, which represents the most complete current Art Russe collection, will be divided into four sections. Paintings and sculptures will include works by artists that embody the glory of the Russian art school. Viewers will see sculptures by Vera Mukhina and Eugene Vucetic, still lifes by Alexander Gerasimov and Alexei Gritsai, landscapes by Nikolai Andronov and Semyon Chuikov, genre paintings by Nikolai Baskakov and Arkady Plastov, portraits by Abram Arkhipov and Alexander Bubnov, architectural landscapes by Tahir Salahov and Vladimir Stozharov, as well as masterpieces by Nikolay Feshin, Tkachev brothers, Nikolay Roerich and many others. The new Art Russe exhibition offer its audience an opportunity to get acquainted with Russian history and culture, as reflected in the works of the best artists and sculptors of the time.

Art Russe Fund, a partner of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF), implements educational projects to support and promote Russian art of the twentieth century. Cooperation between Art Russe and RCF aims to develop programs to facilitate creation of new mechanisms to popularize the game of chess and unite cultural and intellectual aspects of the life of society. Art Russe was established in 2012 with the aim to help global audiences to better understand Soviet and Russian art and its contribution to world culture.
