Andrey Filatov Congratulates Peter Svidler and Aleksandra Goryanchkina on Winning Superfinals

And thanks all the organizers.

President of the Russian Chess Federation, Head Coach of the Russian men's national chess team Andrey Filatov congratulates Peter Svidler and Aleksandra Goryachkina on winning the Russian Championships Superfinals in Saint Petersburg.

Dear Peter, dear Aleksandra!

I would like to congratulate you on your winning the Russian Championships Superfinals! The champions of the both tournaments were determined on tie-breaks and that fact indicates an unusual tenacity of the fight. You showed your highest skills, will and determination in the competition with the best chess players of our country.

Peter Svidler won the Russian Championship for the 8th time thus exceeding a legendary Mikhail Botvinnik in number of golden medals. This achievement is worth entering the Guinness Book of Records! For the first time, Peter had won the title in 1994, and for about 15 years he has been of the strongest grandmasters of the world.

This is the second Aleksandra Goryachkina’s golden medal of the Russian Women’s Championships. I as sure that Sasha is able to conquer any heights in chess!

I would also like to thank everyone who helped the Russian Chess Federation organize and hold the Superfinals. This is the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation since 2012, with which we have been realizing a popular Chess in Museum program, the State Museum of Political History of Russia, and Renault Russia Company.
