Aleksey Grebnev Scores Eighth Victory at World Youth Championship

The tournament goes into Round 10.

Round 9 of the U14, U16, and 18 World Youth Chess Championship has finished in Montesilvano (Italy). 

In the open U18 group, all three Russian participants won their games. Aleksey Grebnev defeated Mark Jay Bacojo (Philippines) and is now in the lead with 8.5 points. Aldiyar Ansat (Kazakhstan) is one point behind the leader. Volodar Murzin and Konstantin Popov have 7 and 6.5 points, respectively. In the U18 girls' event, Rochelle Wu (USA) maintains her lead with 8 points. Anna Zhurova won in Round 9 and is 1 point behind her.   

Jakub Seemann (Poland) has scored 8 points in the U16 open tournament. Tamerlan Chyndygyr is training by 2.5 points. Alexandra Shvedova has caught up with Wang Chuqiao (China) in the U16 girls' competition: the leaders share 8 points. 

Pham Tran Gia Phuc (Vietnam), Magnus Ermitsch (Germany), and Pawel Sowinski (Poland) are leading the race in the U14 open category with 7.5 points apiece. Savva Vetokhin and David Akhmedov are half a point behind them while Aleksey Prokhorov is 1 point behind. Afruza Khamdamova (Uzbekistan) is heading the U14 girls' tournament with 8 points scored. The leader is followed by Anna Shukhman, who has got 7.5 points.
