91st City Championship Final Finishes in Saint Petersburg

The winner is Sergei Lobanov.

The 91st final of the Saint Petersburg city championship took place in the Bronze Horseman chess club on April 3-13. The tournament saw 12 players from 17 to 28 years old fighting for the title. The starting list was headed by GM Aleksey Goganov.

Despite any predictions, the tournament was won by the youngest participant IM Sergei Lobanov who scored 8.5 points out of 11. The champion is sharing his success with his coach Valery Loginov.

Aleksey Goganov was leading for the most part of the tournament. But Lobanov outplayed Ilya Duzhakov in the last round, while Goganov didn't manage to convert a material edge in his game with IM Vasily Usmanov, who became the bronze medalist with 7.5 points.

Lobanov, Goganov, and Usmanov qualified for the Russian Championship Higher League.
