Russian Club Championships begin in Sochi
Siberia defeated Malachite 3.5-2.5 in the key match.
On Friday, May 1, the Russian Club Championships began in the Grand Hotel Zhemchuzhina, Sochi. There are six championships – men's Premier League and Higher League, women's event, seniors' event, and two junior events.
The Premier League is a round robin event for 8 teams. Each team brings six players and two reserves. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with a 30-second increment starting on move 1. Draw offers before the move 40 are forbidden. All games begin at 3 pm Moscow time.
In the key match of the first round of the Premier League its rating favorites Siberia (Novosibirsk) defeated the defending champions Malachite (Sverdlovsk, Region) – 3.5-2.5. Alexei Shirov won the first board game against Vladimir Kramnik, however, Siberia stroke back twice: Levon Aronian defeated Alexander Motylev, and Anton Korobov won against Alexander Riazantsev. Three other games were drawn.

The second round takes place on May 2: Siberia – Bronze Horseman, SHSM – Yamal, Kazan – University, Malachite – Lada.

Donchanka – SHSM 1-3, Ugra – Grozny 3.5-0.5, Kazan – University 1.5-2.5, SDYUSSHOR SHSH – Glek Academy 4-0, Kuban – Boavista 0-4.
Chess-Results:
Special Chess Pavilion is opened on the beach of the Grand Hotel, hosting various chess events, master classes, etc. It will also host the Russian Bughouse Championship later this week.
