Russian Women Win in Second Round of China-Russia Match

Russian men's team loses.


On May 28, the second round of the classical part of the China-Russia Match took place in Qinhuangdao. 

The Russian men's team lost 1.5-3.5 (Sanan Sjugirov, Alexey Sarana, and Andrey Esipenko drew their games, while Maxim Matlakov and Kirill Alekseenko lost).

After two rounds, the score is 4.5-5.5 in favor of the Chinese team.

The Russian women's team won 3-2 (Natalija Pogonina defeated Xiao Yiyi, Valentina Gunina, Aleksandra Goryachkina, Olga Girya, and Polina Shuvalova made draws).

After two rounds, the score is 7-3 in favor of the Russian team. 

This day, grandmasters Vladimir Potkin and Alexander Motylev gave master-classes for pupils of Qinhuangdao schools where chess is the most popular. Teachers, parents and children got ready for the master-classes quite well and the encounters with the grandmasters were a success. In general, the Chess at Schools program attracts more and more children and is growing more widespread. Gradually, chess is being included into the school curriculum.
