Mednyi Vsadnik Wins European Club Cup

Molodezhka and Ugra become bronze medallists.

The European Club Cup finished in Porto Carras, Greece, on October 19th. In the open event, the Russian team Mednyi Vsadnik defeated Valerenga Sjakklub (Norway) led by Magnus Carlsen 4-2. The club from Saint Petersburg headed by Peter Svidler won the tournament with 12 match points.  

AVE Novy Bor (Czech Republic) became second due to inferior tie-break. The Russian team Molodezhka from Tyumen scored 11 match points to win bronze medals having edged out Obiettivo Risarcimento Radova (Italy), Valerenga Sjakklub (Norway), and Alkaloid (Mecadonia).

Cercle d'Echecs de Monte-Carlo won the women's event. In the final match the club from Monaco made a draw with the Georgian team Nona, but became the winner by means of the victory on the first board. The match for the 3rd place between the Russian teams SSHOR and Ugra finished in a draw. Ugra won the tie-break 2.5-1.5 to become the bronze medallist.
