Hikaru Nakamura Wins First Leg of FIDE Grand Prix

He defeated Levon Aronian on tie-break.

Hikaru Nakamura became the winner of the first leg of the FIDE Grand Prix Series 2022 in Berlin by defeating Levon Aronian on tie-break 2-0. Nakamura won the rook endgame in the first game as White and then outplayed his opponent in the second encounter, in the endgame as well.

 

 
Hikaru Nakamura scored 13 GP points and Levon Aronian 10.

The second leg will be held from 28 February to 14 March in Belgrade.
