FIDE World Cup Under 8, 10 and 12 Kicks Off in Batumi

Round 1 of the FIDE World Cup among boys and girls under 8, 10 and 12 was played in Batumi, Georgia, on 23 June. 

The event is played in two stages. Stage 1 is a 7-round Swiss system tournament (23-29 June). The organiser created two groups of 24 players: Group A and Group B. The average Elo rating of the both groups is as equal as possible. 

In Stage 2 (1-2 July), players who finish in the same position in each group will play against each other matches  according to a knockout system. The winner of the match between the two group winners will be ranked first. The loser of the match between the group winners will be ranked second. The winner of the match between the group runners-up will be ranked third.
 
Most of the higher-rated players won their games. Among them are Russians Svetlana Belanova, Reana Kinzyabulatova, German Kalinichenko, Roman Shogdzhiev, Alisa Genrietta Yunker, Angelina Ambartsumyan, Artem Mamikonyan, Yuri Ambartsumyan, Kristina Zavivaeva, and Eliza Tereschenko.
 
The rounds begin at 2 PM (Moscow time).
