Mikhail Botvinnik Cup Finishes in Moscow

Prizewinners are Belarus, Russia and Turkmenistan.


The second Mikhail Botvinnik Open Cup among teams from the CIS countries and Georgia finished in the Cosmos Hotel in Moscow on August 14th. The tournament was played according to the so called Pioneer Palaces' formula: team captains (grandmasters and masters) gave simultaneous exhibitions with clock to the opposing teams' juniors. The points scored by captains and children were summarized. 

The Belarusian team, which had secured the first place before the ultimate round, won the final match with Kyrgyzstan 6.5-1.5 as well. The Russians defeated Moldova 4.5-3.5 to take the second place. The team from Turkmenistan bested the Uzbek chess players 5.5-2.5 to win bronze medals.  

Other results: Kazakhstan - Azerbaijan 5-3 and Armenia - Tajikistan 4.5-3.5.

1. Belarus - 40.5, 2. Russia - 30.5, 3. Turkmenistan - 29, 4. Kazakhstan - 27.5, 5. Armenia - 27, 6. Azerbaijan - 26.5, 7. Moldova - 26, 8. Georgia - 26, 9. Kyrgyzstan - 25.5, 10. Uzbekistan - 25, 11. Tajikistan - 24.5.
