The FIDE World Cup will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk on September 9 till October 4. 128 players will compete in a knock-out event with 7 rounds. Two finalists will qualify for the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2020. 

On August 10, the International Chess Federation published the final list of participants and pairings without colour.

Russia is represented by 28 players: Ian Nepomniachtchi, Alexander Grischuk, Vladislav Artemiev, Sergey Karjakin, Dmitry Andreikin, Peter Svidler, Nikita Viriugov, Maxim Matlakov, Evgeny Tomashevsky, Vladimir Fedoseev, Dmitry Jakovenko, Sanan Sjugirov, Evgeniy Najer, Anton Demchenko, Daniil Yuffa, Ernesto Inarkiev, Alexey Sarana, Grigoriy Oparin, Andrey Esipenko, Nikita Petrov, Alexandr Predke, Aleksandr Rakhmanov, Daniil Dubov, Igor Lysyj, Aleksei Pridorozhni, Ilia Iljushenok, Kirill Alekseenko, and Maksim Chigaev.
