Vladislav Artemiev and Baira Kovanova are New Russian Champions

Thursday, October 12, the final 11th round of the Russian Championships Superfinals finished at Tsarskoe Selo State Museum and Heritage Site (Pushkin, Saint Petersburg).
In the open tournament Maxim Matlakov defeated Ivan Rozum in a long struggle, and Andrey Esipenko defeated Klementy Sychev as White. The games Goryachkina vs. Artemiev, Timofeev vs. Lagno, Murzin vs. Ponkratov, and Najer vs. Tomashevsky ended in a draw.
As it is known, Vladislav Artemiev became the Russian champion with one round to go. He ended up with a score of 8.5 out of 11. Maxim Matlakov, Pavel Ponkratov, and Evgeniy Najer have scored 6.5 points apiece. The best additional tiebreakers have landed Matlakov in the second place, and Ponkratov in the third place.

In the Women's event, Baira Kovanova and Marina Korneva made a quick draw. Only Olga Badelka could catch up with Kovanova, but she lost to Ekaterina Goltseva.

Valentina Gunina defeated Mariya Yakimova as Black to take second place, ahead of Olga Badelka and Polina Shuvalova. The latter has defeated Natalija Pogonina.
Leya Garifullina outplayed Anna Shukhman, and Alina Bivol outperformed Olga Matveeva.
