Mednyi Vsadnik and South Ural Lead Race at European Club Cups

The penultimate round of the 36th European Chess Club Cup and the 25th European Women's Chess Club Cup was played in Struga, the Republic of North Macedonia, on the 23rd of September.
In the open event, Mednyi Vsadnik defeated Silla-Valencia Origin of Chess (Spain) 3.5-2.5 to take the sole lead with 11 points scored. The Russian team is followed by AVE Novy Bor (Czech Republic), which made a draw with Alkaloid (Macedonia), and Team XtraCon (Denmark).
The final 7th round will see the following matches: Mednyi Vsadnik vs Team XtraCon, AVE Novy Bor vs Silla-Valencia Origin of Chess, and Vugar Gashimov vs Alkaloid.
South Ural won the sixth match in a row in the women's section: in Round 6 the Russians defeated Alkaloid (North Macedonia) 3.5-0.5. The Ukrainian GRECO – Kyiv Chess Federation is 2 match points behind the leader. The leaders will play against each other in the last round.
