Ascension in Loo
A picture report by Eteri Kublashvili from the All-Russian competitions among pupils of orphanages and boarding schools.A second all-Russian competition "Ascension", held in Loo among pupils of orphanages and boarding schools and organized jointly by the Russian Chess Federation and the Fund of Social, Charitable and Cultural Programs "Northern Crown", is about to finish.
The tournament is an excellent opportunity for children to demonstrate their abilities not only at the chessboard, but also in various kind of competitions and sportive contests. In the course of the "Ascension" tournament the children and their coaches had an opportunity to met the European Champion Ernesto Inarkiev and take part in a simul given by him, as well as attend the seminars run by the Moscow Chess Federation President Alexander Kostyev. Besides, they have been taken on excursions to various places of interests in Sochi.
On a rest day of March 14 the "Miss AquaLoo-2017" contest was held as part of the tournament program. Participants and volunteers took a scrupulous attitude towards the event and presented the audience with a real gala concert.
The competition was participated by Darya Maksimova (Krasnogorye, the Udmurt Republic), Darya Golubeva (Torzhok, Tver Region), Victoria Kaznina (Ivanovo, Ivanovo Region), Victoria Matveeva (Elista, The Republic of Kalmykia), Alena Vshivtseva (Zheleznogorsk, The Krasnoyarsk Krai), Ekaterina Mikheeva (Nepitsino, Moscow Region) and Ekaterina Kozlova (Furmanov, Ivanovo Region).
The girls demonstrated their talents in singing, dancing and recitation, as well as in erudition and mental agility contests. The panel of jury headed by Natalia Yunchenkova, the Northern Crown Foundation director, awarded each participant with diplomas in various nominations, while Darya Maksimova became the contest winner, who later noted in her speech the importance of chess for her and how it helped her in everyday life.
The kids have two rounds to play yet, as well as to find out the strongest football team. We wish everyone good luck and victories at the finish line!
