FIDE Women’s Grand Prix: Final Leg Begins in Gibraltar

The final fourth leg of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix will take place from May 22 to June 2 in Gibraltar. 


The list of participants with starting numbers is as follows:

1. Gunay Mammadzada (2443, Azerbaijan), 2. Irina Bulmaga (2440, Romania), 3. Zhansaya Abdumalik (2472, Kazakhstan), 4. Mariya Muzychuk (2544, Ukraine), 5. Nana Dzagnidze (2524, Georgia), 6. Alina Kashlinskaya (2494, Russia), 7. Valentina Gunina (2421, Russia), 8. Kateryna Lagno (2546, Russia), 9. Anna Muzychuk (2535, Ukraine), 10. Dinara Saduakassova (2500, Kazakhstan), 11. Elisabeth Paehtz (2467, Germany), 12. Antoaneta Stefanova (2470, Bulgaria).    

The event is an 11-round all-play-all tournament.  

The time control for each game is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.

The match days: May 22 - 27, May 29 - June 2. The rest day is May 28. All the rounds (except the final one - TBA) start at 4 PM Moscow time.

Two best players of the WGP Series qualify for the FIDE Women's Candidates Tournament. The leader after three legs, the Russian Aleksandra Goryachkina (398 series points), already has a place in the Tournament as a previous World Championship Match runner-up. Consequently, her spot will be awarded to the next top-scorer of the Grand Prix which promises a fierce fight. 

Aleksandra Goryachkina is followed by Humpy Koneru (293), Alexandra Kosteniuk (193), Nana Dzagnidze (180), Kateryna Lagno (180), and Harika Dronavalli (180).
