Sergey Karjakin Defeats Magnus Carlsen in Stavanger

Ian Nepomniachtchi beat Richard Rapport in Armageddon.


On the 12th of September the fifth round of the Norway Chess was played in Stavanger. Sergey Karjakin won against Magnus Carlsen in the Sveshnikov Sicilian with the white pieces. Alireza Firouzja beat Aryan Tari as White. Ian Nepomniachtchi and Richard Rapport made a draw in the classical game, while the Russian grandmaster won in the "Armageddon". 

 

 
A win in a classical game is worth 3 points and a loss 0. If the players draw, they play an Armageddon game, where the winner earns 1.5 points and the loser 1 point.
