Sergey Karjakin Becomes World Blitz Champion!

Anna Muzychuk defended her title in the women's event.

The World Blitz Championships ended on December 30 in Doha, Qatar. 

Sergey Karjakin celebrated a victory in the open event, collecting 16.5 out of 21. Magnus Carlsen scored the same amount of points, but his tie-break was inferior, thus giving the Norwegian only second place. 

Daniil Dubov, Alexander Grischuk, and Hikaru Nakamura tied for third place with 14.5 points. Dubov's tie-break was superior, therefore he won the bronze. 

Final standings  

Anna Muzychuk (Ukraine), who had just won the Women's World Rapid Championship, repeated her success in blitz, taking the gold with 13 points out of 17.

The Russian duo Valentina Gunina and Ekaterina Lagno finished half a point behind her. Gunina's tie-break gave her second place.
