Second Game of FIDE Women's World Championship Match Ends Peacefully

The score is 1-1.

The second game of the FIDE Women's World Championship Match between Ju Wenjun (China) and Aleksandra Goryachkina (Russia) was played in Shanghai on January 6.

The first symbolic moves were made by Zhao Guansheng, Deputy Director General of the Shanghai Sports Ministry, and Nigel Short, FIDE Vice-President.

The women's world champion had the white pieces. The opponents opted for an actual line of the Berlin system with 5.Re1 where they were waging a calm positional struggle. White had a slight edge as she possessed the open e-file but Aleksandra managed to equalize by playing precisely. A draw was agreed right after the 40th move.

January 7 is a free day. The Match will continue on January 8 with Aleksandra Goryachkina playing as White.
